Run an MT5 Robot on a VPS and Monitor It from Your Phone

MT5 VPS hosting with a cloud server and trading monitoring screens

To run an MT5 robot on a VPS, first decide where the Expert Advisor will actually execute. The mobile app helps you monitor an account, but it is not a runtime for custom Expert Advisors. Execution takes place in a desktop terminal or a compatible virtual hosting environment, and connection and log monitoring still matter.

Quick answer

Install and test the robot on a demo account. Choose between a Windows VPS and MetaTrader’s built-in virtual hosting, transfer the settings using the appropriate method, confirm that only one intended instance executes trades, and check the logs before relying on phone monitoring.

Windows VPS vs MetaTrader virtual hosting

A Windows VPS is a remote computer with a full operating system that you access through Remote Desktop. You install your broker’s terminal and robot files, and manage updates and restarts. It can suit software that requires companion applications or a desktop environment, subject to licensing and resource requirements.

MetaTrader virtual hosting migrates the trading environment from your local terminal through synchronization. It is not a full Windows desktop. Review the official MetaTrader migration rules, especially restrictions involving DLL libraries and external services. Migrating charts and settings is different from copying files to a Windows computer.

Start with the robot’s requirements, then compare memory, CPU, server location, support and cost. Low latency does not guarantee an execution price or profit. Our MT5 VPS hosting guide (Arabic) covers the needs of continuous operation.

How to prepare your MT5 robot for a VPS

1. Prepare a demo account and a documented set of files

Keep the robot’s version, instructions and settings file. Confirm that it supports your account type, symbol and timeframe. An MT4 EX4 file cannot run in MT5; changing the extension does not convert it to EX5. If you are still looking for a learning tool, start with our free MT5 robot sources and testing guide.

2. Install the file in the correct desktop terminal

For robots supplied as files, open File > Open Data Folder in the terminal, then MQL5 > Experts. Follow the developer’s dependency instructions and refresh Navigator after copying the file. If you receive MQ5 source code, compile it in MetaEditor without errors. For Market products, follow their own installation and activation process.

3. Check the symbol, timeframe and inputs

Open the appropriate chart, attach the robot, review Inputs and save a copy of the settings. Use your broker’s exact symbol, including any suffix. Our XAUUSD symbol guide (Arabic) explains names such as GOLD and XAUUSDm. Do not copy a lot size from another account without checking contract specifications.

4. Review permissions before starting

The desktop terminal needs algorithmic trading permission at both terminal and robot level. The official Expert Advisor documentation explains these controls. Enable DLLs or external connections only when the tool comes from a trusted source and its function requires them. Run the first trial on a demo account.

5. Transfer the environment for your hosting type

On a Windows VPS, install the terminal, sign in to the demo account, transfer the files and settings, and verify execution inside the remote computer. Disconnect Remote Desktop in a way that leaves the user session and applications running. Signing out or shutting down the server can close the terminal; test your provider’s behavior.

With built-in virtual hosting, prepare the charts, robots and settings locally, then synchronize the appropriate environment. Review the migration report and logs. After changing Inputs or adding a chart, synchronize again and verify that the update arrived. Renting hosting alone does not mean your robot has been migrated or started.

How do you prevent duplicate trades on the PC and VPS?

Define one intended execution instance. Running the same strategy locally and on another server can produce duplicate orders, depending on its design. A Magic Number helps a robot identify its trades; it is not a universal lock that prevents every other instance from opening a trade.

After migration, check the local and hosted instances and their logs on the demo account. MetaTrader’s built-in service has specific algorithmic trading rules during migration, so the local button’s color alone does not prove the server’s state. Understand how manual position changes affect the robot before intervening.

Can an MT5 robot run on your phone?

MT5 mobile apps do not install and run custom MQL5 programs like the desktop terminal. You can monitor the same connected account and receive configured notifications. The official MT5 mobile notification documentation explains how a robot running on a computer can send messages to a mobile device.

If you use a Remote Desktop app on your phone, you control the VPS running the terminal; the robot is not running inside mobile MT5. Losing your phone connection does not necessarily stop a robot on the server, but a stopped server or terminal affects execution. Test alerts and emergency access before relying on unattended operation.

Post-migration verification checklist

  • Account: Check the server, account number and account type; keep the trial on demo.
  • Data: Prices update during the market session and the connection is stable.
  • Settings: The robot version, symbol, timeframe and Inputs match the tested configuration.
  • Execution: There is one intended execution instance and no duplicate orders.
  • Logs: Review Experts, Journal and migration messages for license, symbol or permission errors.
  • Recovery: Test server restarts and connection interruptions on the demo account.
  • Monitoring: Confirm that alerts arrive and that you know how to stop the instance actually executing trades.

No immediate trade does not necessarily indicate a fault: the strategy’s conditions may not have occurred. Start with the logs, then see our MT5 robot troubleshooting guide (Arabic). Keep a settings record and a timeline so the issue can be reproduced.

Frequently asked questions

Can I turn off my computer after migration?

Yes, once you have verified that the robot is running in the hosted environment and migration or remote terminal setup is complete. Closing your computer before that check can stop the only running instance.

Does a VPS make any robot profitable?

No. Hosting supports environment availability and connectivity. It does not fix a weak strategy or unsuitable risk settings.

Do I need to synchronize again after changing settings?

For MetaTrader’s built-in hosting, verify that synchronization transfers the new settings. On a Windows VPS, change the instance inside the server itself and verify its reinitialization.

Does every robot work on built-in hosting?

Do not assume compatibility. Check the developer’s requirements and service rules, particularly when the robot needs DLLs, an external application or a particular licensing method.

Your next step

Start with one demo environment, document the settings, and test migration, recovery and alerts. When comparing MT5 trading robots, ask about hosting, activation and position management before choosing a product. If your strategy needs custom failure-handling rules, see our custom robot development service (Arabic).
